Hello – I’m Mark De-Lisser, founder of CHOIR CAKE.
Singing connects people.
It creates communities. It lifts us up. It generates joy.
Research shows that singing as part of daily life increases confidence.
Singing in a group is even more powerful.
Picture the packed terraces at a football match, where thousands of cheering and singing fans infuse spectators and players alike with energy and passion.
Wherever it’s heard, collective song has the power to boost anyone who hears it.
And you don’t have to be a singer to experience the magic of singing in a group! You just have to open your mouth and create the long, sustained tones you did when you were first born!
Growing up in the church, singing was something the whole congregation did. Whether you believed you could sing or not, in that moment and in that space, you had a voice. We sat together and we sang together. What’s more – no one judged anyone on their voices, we just sang and created incredible sounds as a congregation.
One of my favourite texts from the Bible says, ‘make a joyful noise unto the Lord’.
Not ‘a tuneful sound’ – a joyful noise.
It’s a reminder that singing doesn’t have to be perfect; it should come from a place of absolute joy.
It should be about having fun. About enjoying and expressing yourself.
Choir leaders like you and I have the power to give people the confidence to lend their voices to a collective sound – however good (or otherwise) they think they are!
We’re born with a voice and that voice is unique to us.
I developed CHOIR CAKE to share the power of song with everyone from five-year-olds to 90-year-olds – and I do that by sharing exclusive vocal arrangements, backing tracks, tutorials and advice with choir leaders just like you.
By providing a safe space for others to express their voices with others – as part of a choir – you’re helping to spread the message that singing is for everyone!
